In ye olden days, AP or UPI newswire teletypes would spit out a constant stream of paper in newsrooms. Editors or reporters would have to periodically use rulers to tear apart the continuous spool of paper into individual stories. These stories would be sorted into baskets or hooks on the wall. This was called "stripping the wire". In the same way, this blog will attempt to sort through relevant content on the internet to identify and "strip out" items of interest for my students.

It's hard to tell if the traditional newscast is dying ... that would call for the end of television, everythign moving to a smaller more compatible format which still seems a way distance away. But there were always be a form of news, whether it's watched on an iPod or an iPhone.
Remember, Bob Dotson said that we are the only medium that can visually tell stories. Bloggers can't do that.
News will never die no matter what it just will be broadcasted differently.
I find it hard to believe that the traditional newscast is dying, I think that it will adapt and change as technology and society changes. However, we are far from the end of television news.
I agree with what Jill said. Without a traditional newscast, people won't really have anyone they can rely on to get their news. The viewers depend on someone (an actual person) to deliver the news to them. If the traditional newscast were to die, some viewers wouldn't know what to do, or who to believe.
Traditional newscast will probably never die, but they will probably tweak there format.
I don't think that the traditional newscast is dying or will die. But I do think it will change, and it is changing. People want their news NOW, and that doesn't necessarily mean t.v. news, but also via internet, ipods and whatever new technology is out there. So stations must adapt in order to keep viewers interested.
Perhaps his predictions are correct and the traditional way of doing things will die. This is not such a bad thing. New ways of delivering the news will inevitably come about. Change is not always a bad thing. If we look back a history look how much radio and TV have changed and adapted over the years. Look at what an impact the internet has made. New technologies and new trends in news will come and go. In order to survive…news must learn to adapt. Just because news has usually been done a particular way doesn’t mean it is the best way! Just as an example many thought radio would die when TV came into existence. This did not occur because the radio changed and into peoples cars and other adaptations. Have no fear friends!
