In ye olden days, AP or UPI newswire teletypes would spit out a constant stream of paper in newsrooms. Editors or reporters would have to periodically use rulers to tear apart the continuous spool of paper into individual stories. These stories would be sorted into baskets or hooks on the wall. This was called "stripping the wire". In the same way, this blog will attempt to sort through relevant content on the internet to identify and "strip out" items of interest for my students.

They're selling beautiful women....and I'm watching!!!
They are selling a glamourized, flawless image of the news, not what it takes to actually get the news. News is a business that can be advertised.
They are in fact selling the body image of the female reporters and or anchors. The camera shot is also just a mid sot, not a full body shot.
I also agree with jill when she says, "news is a business that can be advertised"
They are using beautiful women to sell their newscast. They are trying to beautify the news, make it more interesting or appealing.
Well all I have to say is that they might as well change Fox Business to the Fox Business Gentleman's Club if you know what I mean.
Maybe that's why the Fox Business Channel has flopped so far, the only content they have is talking heads and beautiful women and not... BUSINESS NEWS!
As many people say "sex sells". They are using women who are pretty to attract a audience If that is what it takes to catch peopels attention than so be it.

Sadly, beauty affects how people watch news. In our society, looks matter and people seem to watch news were there are attractive people delivering them.
Sex sells. They are selling sex. I wonder if they will have a billboard with just males from a network. Probably not. Not as appealing I guess.
why when we see beautiful women on tv or in media we instantly say "sex"? These women could be some of the brightest in the industry, but because they are women, we think the only standards that they live up to or create is in the boundaries of sex images. If the billboard was full of 30 year old men, who have clear skin and clean cut faces with business suits would we say they are selling sex? Would these men not be sexy? Open your eyes. Now, I'm not saying I am a fan of this picture. I agree that news is a business that can be advertised, but why when women are used is it only the selling of sex?
They are selling an ideal portrayal of women in news. No wonder our generation is so self-concious. So many standards.
