In ye olden days, AP or UPI newswire teletypes would spit out a constant stream of paper in newsrooms. Editors or reporters would have to periodically use rulers to tear apart the continuous spool of paper into individual stories. These stories would be sorted into baskets or hooks on the wall. This was called "stripping the wire". In the same way, this blog will attempt to sort through relevant content on the internet to identify and "strip out" items of interest for my students.

I think it's good/bad that they're laying off so many people. Good because it is important to be well-rounded and know how to perform more then one task especially when your working in broadcasting. Bad because so many people will be left w/out a job.
I think by laying off so many people it will cause a lot of people to step up their game and become well-rounded.
At what point does cutting that many jobs become detrimental to the news department? It's hard to do good work when you have to get your own coffee.
It's scary to know that the field I am going into is cutting so many jobs. Although I do know how to multitask I am not fluent at everything nor do I find interest in everything you can possible do within the field. I think ABC is making a horrible mistake but I guess they are trying to save money.

This really makes you wonder about what we're about to get into..Is this really what we want to do with the rest of our lives when things are on such a down hill? All this time, money, and energy could be for nothing...Chastity is right, it's just really scary.
I don't think its good that they are cutting job because we are going to need them jobs when we graduate but luckly for me I havea lot of fields under my belt.
